About
A two-day online workshop introducing the foundations of my coiling technique and my approach to building organic, asymmetrical vessels by hand. Through short, step-by-step chapters, I will guide you from preparing the clay and building the first coils to shaping, refining and finishing your vessel. You will learn how to create asymmetrical curves, change direction while coiling, maintain balance within irregular forms, control the structure and thickness of the walls, shape the neck and refine the surface. An important part of the workshop is learning to read the clay: understanding when you can continue building, when the piece needs to rest, and how to protect it between sessions to reduce the risk of cracks. DAY 1 | Building the Form Preparation, base, coiling, volume, curves, asymmetry and resting the clay. DAY 2 | Shaping & Refinement Continuing the form, changing direction, closing the volume, shaping the neck, refining the surface and preparing for drying. ABOUT Sidsel Sidsel is a ceramic artist and founder of Fluuido, her ceramic studio and store in Milan. With a background in fashion design and seven years of experience working with coiling, her practice brings together an instinct for proportion, silhouette and movement with the slower, tactile process of building with clay. This workshop shares the foundations of that practice, giving you the tools to understand the technique while developing forms that feel personal to you. Some previous experience with clay is recommended. Access to a ceramic studio or kiln is needed only if you wish to fire your finished piece.
